hyperfocal focusing and aperture comparisons
Below are images from a short and easy exercise which intends to illustrate a shifting depth of field, in relation to changing the focal point location of a lens. The images are shot at F/2.8 and focus on the intermittent white lines, the vehicle, and then finally on the trees located behind the vehicle.

As you can see, not only does the depth of field shift as focus is moved from the close white lines to the further ones, but depth of field actually expands as the focal plane is moved further away from the camera. In other words, as the focus distance increased, so did depth of field. Pay particular attention to the resolving of both near and far-ground subject matter as the DOF is shifted.
