Canon 5d Mark II video mode to have full exposure control

Canon has added full exposure control to the 5D Mark II…. this is the most requested feature by far for the 5D II and thankfully Canon has been able to add it via a firmware upgrade. The firmware upgrade will be released on June 2, 2009
LONDON, UK, 27th May 2009: Canon announced today it will release a firmware update for the EOS 5D Mark II allowing users to manually control exposure when shooting video. The new firmware will be available for download from 2 June 2009 on Canon Europe’s support web site.
Following the launch of the EOS 5D Mark II in September 2008, Canon’s Research and Development team has listened closely to customer feedback to develop additions to the camera’s movie recording functionality.
Allowing EOS 5D Mark II owners to achieve even more stunning video results with the camera, the firmware update will include the following manual controls when shooting video:
Full aperture selection
ISO speed: Auto, 100 – 6400 and H1
Shutter speed: 1/30th – 1/4000th second

5D II captures shuttle and ISS/ hubble!
Thierry Legault has captured a few outstanding images of the shuttle intercepting the Hubble telescope… to add drama to an already impressive photo he timed out the appearance of the crafts in front of the sun.

Quick and Easy Portraits

You too can quickly and easily make professionally lit portraits. In 30 seconds I setup a shoot through umbrella along with a 430ex on a light stand, placed my subject on a couch and fired up the camera. Here is what I used, and the setup:

Camera + 580ex II

the lighting source, an umbrella + 430ex
Quick and simple portrait result

The Resulting Portrait, 1/125th, F8, ISO 100, 70mm, one 430ex right / one 430ex left as sole light source
Check out the portrait photography guide for more indepth info. To get started all you need is an inexpensive shoot through umbrella with your off camera flash! I also recommend this affordable light stand and a high quality umbrella adapter. You place the adapter on the light stand, and then place the flash on the adapter and umbrella through the adapter. You can then easily adjust the positioning of the flash and umbrella in relation to your subjects.
Now is the best time to purchase a Canon EOS speedlite, the 580ex II and the 430ex II are both rebated and discounted currently to low prices.
