Outdoor Shooting without a flash

When going out to photograph sports, wildlife, kids running, or any other landscape scene, remember to maximize your use of available sunlight when at all possible.

Using sunlight will help increase contrast, improve focus accuracy, speed up shutter speeds, and help achieve faster shots with less subject motion. When shooting wild life for instance, your images may appear flat without the use of a flash. Often times you can not use a flash around wild life, so if you photograph at an angle where the sun is lighting your subject you will be far better off.

Basking in the sun and helping my exposure

The same applies to sports photos, here I have shot a photo of a dog at a dog park. By having the sun at my back, the subject matter is lit up and I am efficiently using all available light to maximize my shutter speed.

Remembering to use your “sun strobe” to light your scene will ensure greater success. With all of the different variables to account for in your photography … the placement and use of sun light should rank very high in your priorities.

lens cleaner recommendation

Here is a little cleaning kit with fluid, a micro fibre cloth, and some pre-moistened cloths. I dont clean my lenses too often, but sometimes you really need one to get water/fingerprints/ smudges off the lenses appropriately and safely. Make sure to always use micro fibre towels and do not use shirts/paper towel or tissues as this will get dust and lint inside the lens.
